What was the outcome of the Battle of Batoche?

The Battle of Batoche, fought from May 9th to 12th, 1885, resulted in a decisive victory for the Canadian government forces over the Métis resistance led by Louis Riel. The Métis were outnumbered and outgunned, and their defenses at Batoche were eventually overrun. Riel surrendered shortly after the battle, effectively ending the North-West Resistance. The defeat at Batoche led to the collapse of the provisional Métis government and the subsequent trial and execution of Louis Riel for treason.
