I believe the most important principle of democracy is **rule of law**. While other principles like separation of powers and representative government are crucial for a functioning democracy, they are ultimately built upon the foundation of rule of law.<br /><br />Here's why:<br /><br />* **Equality and Fairness:** Rule of law ensures that everyone, regardless of their position or power, is subject to the same laws. This creates a level playing field and prevents arbitrary exercise of power, promoting fairness and justice for all citizens.
